Vishal Patel receives 2021 IEEE SPS Pierre-Simon Laplace Early Career Technical Achievement Award
Vishal Patel, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has been selected for the 2021 IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Pierre-Simon Laplace Early Career Technical Achievement Award. Patel was selected “for contributions to image processing and machine learning for biometrics and identity science.”
The Pierre-Simon Laplace Early Career Technical Achievement Award honors an individual who, over a period of years in their early career, has made significant technical contributions to theory and practice in technical areas within the scope of the society. This is demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact on the field, including, but not limited to, a standard, a product, or a technology trend.
Patel will receive the award during the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing this upcoming May in Singapore.
This is not the only honor Patel has received recently, as a paper he wrote with ECE graduate student Rajeev Yasarla won the best paper award at the 2021 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP).
