    Abstract

In this talk, I will discuss the fundamental geometric principles for computer vision, namely multiple-view geometry. I will also talk about how symmetry groups play an important role in multiple-view geometry and may significantly fasciliates the task of reconstructing 3-D structure and motion from 2-D images. I will also suggest some interesting connection of the geometric theory with our vision perception/illusion in general. .

    Brief biography

Yi Ma received his PhD degree from the EECS Department of UC Berkeley in 2000 and then joined the faculty of the ECE Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests are in computer vision and systems theory. He won the best paper award (David Marr Prize) at ICCV'99 and the honorable mention for the best paper award (Longuet-Higgins Prize) at ECCV'04 (with R. Vidal). He received the NSF career award in 2003. He is the author of over 40 technical papers and a recent textbook entitled "An Invitation to 3-D Vision: From Images to Geometric Models," published by Springer, November 2003.
